What is a "Home Visit Doctor Service"?
A home visit doctor service is a consultation with a qualified doctor at your home. The doctor takes a medical history, examines you, explains the findings and recommends treatment or further care according to the assessment.
Home visits can be useful for children, older relatives, people with reduced mobility and anyone who finds travelling while unwell difficult. They offer:
- Care in familiar surroundings
- No journey or clinic waiting room
- Time to discuss symptoms and medicines
- A prescription when medically appropriate
- A receipt you can submit to your insurer
How does it work in Mauritius?
1. Request your consultation
Call 52 52 22 34 or message OCS on WhatsApp. Give the patient's age, symptoms, exact address and a contact number. Our care coordinator confirms whether a doctor consultation at home is the appropriate next step.
2. Receive an arrival estimate
The coordinator checks your location and doctor availability before arranging dispatch. Arrival time depends on the area, traffic and demand. Ask for the current estimate when booking; a fixed arrival time cannot be assumed.
3. Meet your doctor at home
The doctor reviews your symptoms and medical history, performs an examination and explains the diagnosis or next steps. A prescription, tests or treatment may be recommended where clinically appropriate. Any treatment charged beyond the consultation is explained and priced before it begins.
4. Understand your follow-up plan
Before the doctor leaves, ask what to watch for and when to seek further help. The care team remains available for guidance and follows up where appropriate. A return home visit is a new consultation, charged at the applicable day or night rate. Hospital care or specialist referral may be recommended when needed.
What to prepare for your visit
- Have your exact address, a nearby landmark and access instructions ready.
- Keep your current medicines, allergy information and relevant reports together.
- Note when symptoms began and any recent changes you want to discuss.
Medical conditions treated at home
Home assessment can be appropriate for many urgent, non-life-threatening concerns and ongoing conditions. The care team and doctor assess what level of care is suitable. Common reasons to request a visit include:
- Fever, flu and cough
- Stomach pain, vomiting or diarrhoea
- Headaches, migraine or general weakness
- Childhood illnesses needing assessment
- Back pain, sciatica or gout
- Allergy symptoms or asthma concerns
- Diabetes and blood-pressure follow-up
- Wound assessment and dressing
See our conditions assessed and treated at home for more detail. The treatment offered depends on the examination and the patient's needs.
When to call SAMU 114: For severe chest pain, signs of a stroke such as sudden facial drooping or weakness, severe breathing difficulty, major bleeding or serious injury, call 114 immediately. Do not wait for a home visit. For an urgent concern that is not life-threatening, our care team can advise on the appropriate next step.

Frequently asked questions
Are the doctors qualified?
Yes. OCS doctors are licensed medical professionals. You can ask the care coordinator about the doctor assigned to your visit.
Can I request a doctor at night or on a public holiday?
Yes. The hotline and home visit service operate 24/7, including weekends and public holidays. Day and night consultation rates apply according to the time of the visit.
Can the doctor give me a prescription?
Yes, when medically appropriate after assessment. The doctor explains the recommended medicines and treatment plan.
Is a home visit suitable for every illness?
No. Home care has limits, and some symptoms need immediate hospital assessment. For a life-threatening emergency, call SAMU on 114. If a home visit is appropriate but further care is needed, the doctor will explain the referral or hospital plan.
Can I claim the consultation on my insurance?
You receive a receipt showing the diagnosis, treatment and cost for submission to your insurer. Whether the visit is covered, and the amount reimbursed, depends on your policy. Check with your insurer rather than assuming reimbursement is guaranteed.
Can I arrange a visit for a child or relative?
Yes. A family member can contact OCS to request a consultation. Share the patient's age, symptoms, address and contact details so the coordinator can confirm the appropriate level of care.
Can tests or treatment be arranged at home?
Where clinically appropriate, the doctor may recommend tests or treatment at home. What is available depends on the assessment and care required. Additional charges are explained before treatment begins.
What if I need help after the visit?
Contact the OCS care team for guidance about your follow-up plan. If the doctor needs to return, the new consultation is charged at the relevant day or night rate. Seek emergency help immediately if life-threatening symptoms develop.
